I'm always talking about how blessed I am and that's because I'm constantly amazed by His goodness! When I decided to try my hand at this photography thing, I was of course frightened out of my mind. Once I started studying, I realized exactly how much I did NOT know and that was even more frightening...I almost quit because I was so overwhelmed.
That's when God's grace stepped in and showed me that His grace really is sufficient. He sent some angels to help me along my way to make sure I didn't become too discouraged. I met them all in circumstances that can only be attributed to God and his perfect timing. First, I met a lady who has become one of my best friends, Laura Parente. We met by chance at a local print shop when she asked to see some of the photos I'd taken. From that encounter, I ended up shooting my first wedding with her before I officially went into business. We've been shooting together ever since and she has been invaluable in helping me grow as a photographer. She suggested I check out a website for inspiration, which led me to my next blessing.
When I saw Audrey Woulard's website, I knew I had found my photographer soulmate. She has such a passion for capturing children that she has built an amazing business by doing only that. Her photography workshops were booked for a couple of years, but I contacted her anyway. A few weeks later, she called me because she had a last minute opening and so I was on the next flight to Chicago! When I got there, I was so lost, that all I could do was take notes! I still laugh about that, but to this day, I take that little notebook along to every shoot. What looked like gibberish to me 3 years ago is sometimes even now, my saving grace!
Soon after that, someone emailed me a heartwarming engagement slideshow that literally left me in tears. I sent the photographer a quick note and asked him a few questions about getting started in the business. To my surprise, international wedding photographer Ross Knight, agreed to meet with me to give some pointers and even took time out of his busy schedule to come to one of my shoots. He's also allowed me to second shoot with him at a wedding which was an incredible experience. He has provided me with so much valuable advice and no matter when I call him, he always has an encouraging word.
So after a few years of shooting weddings and because of God's grace and what others have invested in me, I have the experience and confidence to move into a much larger arena. I am SO excited! Even though I just joined this website, things are looking promising and I'm so excited about this new venture! I hope I make my angels proud!
